Kathryn

Our Veterinarian, Dr. Kathryn Grayston, BSc, DVM, CCRT

Dr. Grayston began her veterinary career in Mixed Animal practice, starting in Paisley Ontario, then moving to the Listowel area, where she gained experience in dairy, beef, equine and companion animal medicine and surgery.

After moving to Cavan-Monaghan Township in 2005 she worked locally as an associate and locum in small animal and exotic practices until finally opening the doors of Millbrook Valley Animal Hospital in October of 2012.

Having grown up in the north end of Guelph, Ontario, Dr. Grayston spent her childhood exploring the fields alongside the Speed River with her dog and sometimes her rabbit, and developed a lasting appreciation for the country, nature and wildlife. At an early age she fostered a passion for horses and began riding at the age of seven, spending as many weekends at the barn as possible. Her first job as a kennel assistant at the Guelph Animal Hospital, lasted for 15 years, until she herself, graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1998 after completing a Bachelor in Biological Science in 1994 also from the University of Guelph. While attending the university, Dr. Grayston was an accomplished player on the Women’s Varsity Soccer Team achieving Academic Honour Roll and OWIAA recognition for athletic achievement in 1992-93.

The same dedication and enthusiasm for sports extends also to Dr. Grayston’s veterinary career. Due to her own numerous sports injuries, Dr. Grayston became very familiar with the benefits of physiotherapy and proceeded to explore how this could help her four-legged friends recover from injuries. Thus, she began a year-long endeavour to become certified in Canine Rehabilitation Therapy from the Canine Rehabilitation Institute of Florida, obtaining her certification in January of 2010. She acquired an AIMLA Certification for Low Level Laser Light Therapy in 2011, and has acquired a Therapeutic Laser for use in her practice to benefit her patients. Her future goals include expanding her rehabilitation training to include Equine Rehabilitation and becoming certified in Veterinary Acupuncture.

Dr. Grayston lives in Millbrook with her husband, John and two sons, Jacob and Duncan, where they share their home with their two dogs, Scout and Kari, and cat Spider. When she is not scouting or horse-back riding with her sons, she enjoys walking the trails around her home or paddling the Kawartha Lakes.

Dr. Grayston is eager to meet you and have the opportunity to care for your pet. She invites you to drop by anytime for a visit and tour of the hospital.
